The final episode of Season 3 is out now! This week we’ll discover how a widowed janitor living with his kids in a tough Philly neighborhood raised a world class concert pianist and a Fortune 500 CEO.   Kenneth Frazier, the highly respected CEO of pharmaceutical giant Merck, joins us to share his powerful story of being raised by a fiercely determined single dad.

Tune in to hear the gripping story of how Ken’s single father relied on tough love to motivate his kids to reach the high heights he dreamed for them. Ken and I explore the pros and cons of tough love parenting, discuss whether his father’s methods would work today, and offer some modern alternatives. We talk about using these alternative methods to keep our kids motivated, give them the protective armor they need, and enable them to confidently chart their own paths. Ken shares plenty of his father’s words of wisdom, and offers up lots of his own as well.

When I started my Ground Control Parenting blog many years ago I hoped to connect and expand the networks of parents raising Black children and offer the resources that helped me raise a healthy family (along with the resources I wished I had when my kids were young). I started my Ground Control Parenting podcast in June 2020 to share informative and inspirational parenting conversations across these networks.  In what feels like the blink of an eye, Ground Control Parenting with Carol Sutton Lewis has grown into an award-winning podcast that is completing its third season!

As Season 3 comes to a close I want to thank you all for being valued members of the #GCP parenting community. I so appreciate your support of our bringing ideas, advice and advisors to the community to help us be the best parents we can be.  I couldn’t be any more proud and happy to say that the Ground Control Parenting Podcast journey has only just begun. With your help spreading the word about this blog and #GCPPodcast, our parenting community will continue to grow bigger and better!!
